VIRGIN ATLANTIC SE CONVIERTE EN EL OPERADOR DEL BIRREACTOR AIRBUS A330 - VIRGIN ATLANTIC BECOMES TWIN JET OPERATOR WITH THE AIRBUS A330

Por primera vez en su historia, Virgin Atlantic Airways emplea un birreactor en sus rutas transatlánticas con un avión A330-300. El vuelo inaugural entre Manchester y Orlando (EE.UU.) forma parte de su compromiso de invertir en aviones más ecológicos y de reforzar el servicio entre Reino Unido y la costa este de EE.UU., este y oeste de África, Oriente Medio e India. Es el primero de los diez A330-300 encargados en diciembre de 2009.

Julie Sur, director comercial de Virgin Atlantic, dijo: "Nos complace dar la bienvenida al A330 en nuestra flota. La llegada de estos nuevos aviones durante los próximos dos años marca un período de expansión de la aerolínea. Esperamos incrementar los servicios en las rutas existentes, así como abrir nuevas rutas de larga distancia con nuestros nuevos aviones, a la vez que mejoramos la eficiencia en el consumo de combustible. Gracias a estos nuevos aviones podremos ofrecer a nuestros clientes un alto nivel de calidad y confort a bordo".

Los dos primeros A330-300 de Virgin Atlantic operarán en las rutas turísticas e irán configurados en dos clases: 59 asientos en clase Económica Premium y 255 en Económica, con las características que hicieron a Virgin Atlantic merecedora del premio a la mejor cabina y servicio, además del revolucionario y nuevo sistema de entretenimiento a bordo. La última tecnología de pantalla táctil permite a los pasajeros desplazarse por la pantalla y moverse entre las más de 300 horas de contenido de forma rápida y sencilla.

"El A330 es la mejor elección para rutas de media y larga distancia. Ofrece a las aerolíneas una productividad sin precedentes, bajo consumo de combustible y fiabilidad, y resulta muy atractivo para los pasajeros", dijo John Leahy, director del Área de Clientes de Airbus.

Con un fuselaje verdaderamente ancho que permite altos niveles de confort, las diferentes configuraciones del A330-300 encajan con las necesidades de los distintos clientes. Tiene un alcance de 5.600 millas náuticas / 10.400 kilómetros con una carga típica de 300 pasajeros. Altamente eficiente, esta optimizado para las rutas de medio y largo recorrido ofreciendo la mejor relación coste/alcance. El A330-300 sigue siendo la forma más económica de transportar 300 pasajeros en rutas de medio recorrido con la misma comodidad ofrecida en las rutas largas. Los pedidos de este avión alcanzan más de 480 unidades

La Familia A330, con capacidad entre 200 y 400 plazas, ofrece las variantes Freighter (avión de carga), VIP y el avión cisterna y de transporte en su versión militar. Hasta la fecha, Airbus ha alcanzado más de 1.100 pedidos de este avión.

Virgin Atlantic Airways, has for the first time in its history deployed a twin engine jet to serve on its transatlantic routes, using an A330-300 aircraft. The inaugural passenger flight between Manchester and Orlando, USA, is part of Virgin Atlantic’s commitment to invest in today’s greenest aircraft and to strengthen services from the UK to the US East Coast, East and West Africa, the Middle East and India. The aircraft is the first to be delivered from the ten A330-300s ordered in December 2009.

Virgin Atlantic's first two A330-300 aircraft will operate on leisure routes and will have a two class configuration of 59 Premium Economy seats and 255 in Economy featuring the airline’s award winning cabin and service and a revolutionary new in-flight entertainment system.  The new cutting edge system uses the latest touchscreen technology allowing passengers to scroll and swipe through over 300 hours of content quickly and easily.

“The A330 really is the aircraft of choice on medium to long haul routes. It offers airlines unparalleled productivity, low fuel burn and reliability, and passenger’s love it too,” says John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers.“

With a true wide-body fuselage allowing very high comfort standards, the A330-300 is able to accommodate seat and class configurations to suit diverse customer requirements. It has a range of up to 5,600 nm / 10,400 km with a typical 300 passenger load. Highly efficient and optimised for the medium – to long range market, the A330-300 offers the best balance between range and cost. The A330-300 remains the most economic means of flying 300 or so passengers on medium range routes in true long haul comfort. Orders for the aircraft stand at more than 480.

The A330 Family, which spans 200 to 400 seats for the passenger variants and also includes Freighter, VIP, and Military Transport/Tanker variants, has now attracted more than 1,100 orders
